Scheduled Import from a Directory Service
A scheduled import from Active Directory (AD) is a feature that allows HP Insights to automatically pull user and group information from your organization’s AD at regular intervals without manual CSV uploads.
If you're using Active Directory as the source of your print user information, follow these steps to enable scheduled import.
-
Install a Print Scout on a server OS (it will be in Print Server mode by default), or explicitly install with PRINT_SERVER=yes if installing on a workstation.
Note: A Print Scout may only be configured to perform automatic imports if it is installed in Print Server mode. Print Server mode is the default for Print Scouts installed on server class operating systems. You can view a Print Scout's current mode in the Deployment column in the Discover > Print Scout context.
-
Navigate to the Discover > Print Scout tab.
-
Select the Print Scout you've installed in Print Server mode.
-
Click Collect.
-
Check the box Make this Scout a Print User Info Collector and Set Print User Information Source to Directory Service – scheduled import.
-
Configure the import schedule. You can configure the Print Scout to perform print user imports daily, weekly, or monthly.
-
Click Save.
-
Restart the HP Print Scout Service.
The import will run based on the schedule downloaded from the HP Insights server. The Print Scout will export user information from Active Directory and upload it to the HP server. The exported file will be saved as a CSV file in the C:\ProgramData\HP\PrintScout\Stores\HrExport folder, which will be immediately uploaded to the HP server. The information for print users who have printed at least once will be updated in Secure Print.
Note: To connect to Active Directory, the selected Print Scout uses the domain account of the machine on which it is installed.
